Sandpipers in Flight

  Sandpipers in Flight

This group of sandpipers, mostly Semipalmated Sandpipers, Calidris pusilla, in fight is taken at the mud flats at Heislersville, New Jersey, where an estimated 25,000 shorebirds were present in late May. The red patch near the upper left hand corner is likely the male Curlew Sandpiper observed on the mudflat when the birds were feeding.
